Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

The Project

Inspired by the rich architectural legacies of Tuscany and Venice, the Atrida design draws from a modern interpretation of an earlier era while celebrating the natural beauty of its setting. Its architectural language balances straight, orthonormal volumes with organic elements, creating a timeless aesthetic that blends tradition and innovation.

A Tribute to Classical Heritage

The design’s narrow openings, bespoke stone volumes, romantic curves, and aged handmade roof tiles nod to classical influences while embracing a contemporary sensibility. Together, these features craft a narrative that feels deeply rooted yet refreshingly modern. The façade’s transparency creates a continuous dialogue between the interior and the surrounding Mediterranean garden, allowing the scents and views of the landscape to permeate the living spaces.

Geometric Inspiration from Giorgio de Chirico

The architectural geometries of the Atrida residence draw heavily on the metaphysical patterns of Giorgio de Chirico. His poetic and dreamlike interpretations of urban spaces inspired the design’s structured yet surreal forms. The interaction of rigid orthonormal volumes with organic, flowing elements mirrors de Chirico’s vision of blending abstraction with a deep sense of place. By adopting this approach, Atrida creates an architectural language that feels both expressive and unified embracing the mystery and depth of its surroundings.

The Essence of Materiality

At the heart of Atrida’s design is a celebration of materiality, expressed through a palette of sweet and earthy tones, including ocher and terracotta. These hues draw inspiration from Greek mythology, particularly the Pleiades and the deity Electra, whose name derives from “ήλεκτρο” (amber). This connection imbues the residence with a luminous, reflective quality, creating a vivid and luminous atmosphere that echoes the mythological origins of its inspiration.

Water: The Element of Harmony

A defining feature of the design is the integration of water, which surrounds the building and enhances its serene atmosphere. The water’s shifting colors and reflections celebrate the symmetry between simplicity and the elegance of the residence. This element ties the various architectural features together, providing a unifying sense of balance and calm.

A Harmonious Dialogue with Nature

Atrida’s design is an invitation to experience a modern reinterpretation of Mediterranean living, where every detail—stone, curves, roof tiles, metaphysical geometries, and the water element—connects the inhabitant to the natural and cultural heritage of the landscape. The result is a residence that embodies both architectural simplicity and poetic grandeur, rooted in history yet shaped for today.
