A collection of fluid contemporary beach apartments at Vouliagmeni, Thalias House is a conceptual statement on the future of residential architecture. Designed to mix technical bravado with complete artistic discernment, the building offers a virtuoso yet the dynamic arrangement of line and form. The fluidity of the structural envelope is created by pushing the boundaries of modern construction and engineering to its limits and is rewarded with a series of remarkable internal spaces that sit in perfect balance and harmony with the surrounding coastal landscape.

A minimally fenestrated rear facade, arranged around classical modernist principles, flows towards the sea-facing front aspect to reveal a dramatic series of stepped terraces that alternate in both line and solidity. Supported by delicate vertical and angled columns to allow light to course below and through the building held above, the crisp geometric lines of the terrace edges are interlaced with softer curving forms that undulate across the wooden-decked slabs. From above, the subtle evolution of the plan on each floor is revealed, with the gaps and overlaps in the formal geometric relationship visible across the multiple levels, and offering a further reduction in the massing. Glass fronted swimming pools offer a further demonstration of the design’s fluidity and mastery of engineering.

Thalias House features three separate residences; a ground floor duplex, a second floor duplex on a scissor plan, and a penthouse duplex with a cantilevered brise soleil over the terrace. Each apartment features its own dynamic quality thanks to a complex spatial program arranged within the building shell. Like its architectural vision, Thalias House was designed and built using the most contemporary research in sustainable living and features fully integrated SMART technologies that create the most energy-efficient climate-controlled interiors. Exterior insulation specification features triple-glazing throughout to ensure low emissions, with under-floor heating and heat pumps minimizing wastage.
